Chartiers Valley Primary School

The Chartiers Valley Primary School stands at 125 Thoms Run Road in Bridgeville. Serving grades K-2, the primary school complex is the most recently erected school within the district. Its completion marked the end of the consolidation period within the district.

Once commissioned by the district in 1994, groundbreaking of the complex occurred that November. Groundbreaking and mid-construction photos are available in the 1995 - 1996 Primary School yearbook. The school had an anticipated completion in early 1995. Unfortunately, the building was not complete prior the 1995 - 1996 school year, resulting in students spending a portion of their school year at their original elementary school, eventually transitioning to the new complex part way through the year. Despite this, the 1995-1996 school year operated at each elementary school as if they were one cohesive unit, branding themselves as the Primary School anyway. Students from Foxcroft Elementary School, Heidelberg Elementary School, Nixon Elementary School, Roberts Elementary School, and E.L Shepard Elementary School anxiously awaited their turn to explore the new building. In preparation, students communicated with intra-school pen pals in an attempt to form friendships ahead of the official move. While we’re unsure of the specific dates that each elementary school transitioned their students, photographs available from the time appear to be in the colder weather months. This is corroborated by first hand staff experiences preparing for the transition around the Christmas holiday that year.

The first year students spent a full year at the complex was 1996 - 1997, the yearbook from that year centered around the theme of “Our first full year at the Primary School.” The dedication ceremony for the new school was held in January 1996. A ceremonial key was used to dedicate the building, which is still located within the school today.

When students returned to begin their 1996 school year, they walked over a welcome mat labeled “Together We Shine”. That welcome mat remains in the Primary School as of 2024, welcoming new students just as warmly as the original class.

Since the opening of the school, two additions and expansions have taken place. One expansion extended the available classrooms on the left side of the building, completed some time in the 2000s. Later, an additional gym would be built providing more instructional space for the growing number of students.

As of 2024, the land and building have an assessed value over $108,000,000.
