Swallow Hill Road (1973 - 1994)

Amid the growth period of the district in the 1970s, students from the Chartiers Valley Senior High School were moved to the new Chartiers Valley High School on Thoms Run Road in 1973. That same year, the former Chartiers Valley Senior High School on Swallow Hill Road was renamed the Chartiers Valley Middle School. This was the first middle school in the Chartiers Valley School District. When it opened, it housed only seventh and eighth-grade students from neighboring elementary schools. Eighth-grade students transferred from the John Dewey Junior High School and John A. Wight Junior High School. Seventh-grade students were “mingled” (as a yearbook recalls) from Bower Hill Elementary, Foxcroft Elementary, Heidelberg Elementary, Samuel S. Nixon Elementary, Rennerdale Elementary, and Washington Elementary schools.

Chartiers Valley Middle School would be renamed to Stanley R. Duda Middle School in 1975 and would remain that way until 1986. It was common during this era for schools to be named after their administrators, however, this is the only instance of a titular Chartiers Valley School District school to be named or renamed after one. Once the school was renamed back to Chartiers Valley Middle School in 1986, it would mark the last school within the district to bear a non-branded name.

Thoms Run Road (1994 - 2017)

In 1994, the Chartiers Valley Middle School would move to the Thoms Run Road campus to occupy one circle building. The campus had been constructed in the 1970’s for the Chartiers Valley High School. The current needs of the high school did not occupy the entire campus, often leading to the majority of the to-be middle school vacant or as storage. Originally the “bullseye” of the building was the joint middle and high school library, spanning both floors via an open platform. Quite famously, a senior prank resulted in thousands of crickets being released into the library. 20 years later and students would occasionally find a dead insect in an untouched library book. When the building became the middle school, the opening between the floors was sealed and the library inhabited the top floor only. The bottom floor area became computer labs that would be used through the late 2010s.

Thoms Run Road Rebuild (2017 - 2026)

As part of the district’s campus rebuild effort, a new middle school was constructed on the Thoms Run Road campus alongside the high school. The new middle school occupies what was once the “M” parking lot, directly on your right as you ascend the campus driveway. It connects to the old performing wing via a glass bridge. The 2017 - 2018 school year would be the first full school year that students from all grades inhabited the new building. Shortly after moving to the new structure, high school students moved to the old middle school building throughout the construction of the new high school. Once the construction of the new high school was completed, the old middle and high school structures were demolished.
