Chartiers Valley Intermediate School

Currently standing as the oldest building in the Chartiers Valley School District and coincidentally commissioned by the pre-district governance, the Chartiers Valley Intermediate School houses grades 3 - 5.

The Intermediate School building has a storied past. First beginning as the Chartiers Valley Joint Senior High School in 1960, it later became the Chartiers Valley Middle School 1974 where it housed grades 7 - 8 for 34 years before becoming the Intermediate School as it’s known today. The first class in the building was the 1994 - 1995 school year. At the time, the building was referred to as the “Chartiers Valley Intermediate Center.” While the 1994 - 1995 yearbook nor available records can confirm which elementary schools the students were transitioned from, we’re fairly certain it was at least the same elementary schools which later transitioned their students from to the new Intermediate School in 1995, including Foxcroft Elementary School, Heidelberg Elementary School, Nixon Elementary School, Roberts Elementary School, and E.L Shepard Elementary School.

In June 2006, construction of a new annex began on the property. The addition provided over 18,000 additional square feet of instructional space for the growing student population. Construction concluded in August of 2007, and was occupied for the 2007 - 2008 school year. More information about the addition is available in the 2006 dedication ceremony document.

As of 2024, the land and building have an assessed value of almost $11,000,000. When originally constructed in 1959, the cost of construction (adjusted for inflation) was $21,461,671.83. Although the building’s currently assessed value does not compare to the cost of construction, the building has been educating students for over 65 years with no plans (as of 2024) for replacement.
